When you live near a place like New York City, there are always huge pop culture and media events popping up, seemingly every week. However, there are few that are bigger or more popular than the granddaddy of them all, New York Comic Con (NYCC). Read along to find out everything you need to know about this annual convention.
What is New York Comic Con?
New York Comic Con is the East Coast’s largest pop culture convention, attracting over 200,000 people in 2017 alone. Not to mention, it is the only one that takes place in the comic book, publishing, media and licensing capital of the world—Gotham City.
Since 2006, this fan convention has been dedicated to Western comics, graphic novels, anime, manga, video games, toys, movies and television. They have booths, panels, speakers, shows, an entire convention floor and so much more.
This year, New York Comic Con will take place from October 4-7 at the historic Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in Hell’s Kitchen. Every day, the show floor will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., except Sunday when it closes at 5 p.m. However, panels will last every day from 10:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., except Sunday when they stop at 5 p.m.

First of all, there will be panels for productions like “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” and workshops like “MARVEL: Making Comics the Marvel Way.” A full list of panels and activities can be found here.

One of the main features of comic conventions like this one is cosplaying, the act of dressing up as a character from a movie, book, video game or any other kind of media. This year, Comic Con will feature Cosplay Central, a new show dedicated to all things cosplay.
They will be hosting workshops to teach new techniques, discuss building your own cosplay and showcase tons of demos from international fan organizations.
At a big event like the New York Comic Convention, you’re naturally going to work up an appetite throughout the course of the day. Luckily, there will be plenty of delicious local restaurants on-hand to serve up all kinds of tasty treats, such as:
- Agape Greek Gyro
- Vegan Taco
