Sakura Matsuri, commonly known as the New York’s Cherry Blossom Festival, is a celebration of gorgeous, pink-petal cherry blossom trees and the rich Japanese culture. It will take place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on April 28 and 29 at the Brooklyn Botanical Garden in Prospect Park.
This festival is thrown to honor the end of Hanami, the Japanese flower season. Not only will there be picturesque foliage, the event will feature staples of Japanese culture like a tea room and decadent art gallery. There will also be a mini flea market where you can purchase Raaka chocolates, wall scrolls and silk wraps.
Prepare yourself for tons of amazing entertainers and performances from Taiko drummers, cosplay actors, samurai sword masters, J-rock bands, stand-up comics and, of course, dance parties. Daily tickets cost $30 and $25 for student and seniors, but they’re free for children under 12. Tickets can be purchase here.
Luna Park, Coney Island’s historic amusement park, will open for the season on March 24. On that day only, you can enjoy free admission with a donation to benefit The Mayor’s Fund to Advance NYC and Girl Scout Troop 600.
