What is it?

The New York Comedy Festival will take place across seven days from Monday, November 5 to Sunday, November 11. This all-out comedy extravaganza will feature stand-up acts, improv performances and sketch variety shows from national headliners, as well as local up-and-coming comedians. All in all, over 100 comedians will be performing more than 100 shows across 20 venues in all five boroughs.

The History

This global comedy festival has been running in conjunction with the famous Caroline’s on Broadway comedy club since 2004. However, this is the first year that the festival is partnering with TBS to put on various live shows and podcasts at the PUBLIC Arts performance space.

Sketches and Improv Shows

Over the past few years, sketch and improv comedy have made a resurgence of sorts. Instead of the traditional route to stardom, some comedians have decided to join sketch and improv comedy troupes to make a name for themselves.

However, sometimes the show itself makes it big. For instance, check out these shows during the New York Comedy Festival:

  • Tuesday, 11/16: In a World: The Dating Show at The PIT
  • Thursday, 11/8: Handmaid’s Tale: The Musical at The Cutting Room
  • Friday, 11/9: Character Assassination at The Creek and the Cave
  • Saturday, 11/10: Kids these Days at The PIT

If you’ve never experienced improv or sketch comedy in person, these are truly some of the top shows out there.
