The Best Food on Long Island: Great Neck Restaurants Edition

Brasserie Americana

Most people aren’t aware that the Inn at Great Neck is home to a wonderful restaurant called Brasserie Americana, a French-American bistro that features a casual, late-night lounge. With a warm, relaxed atmosphere and a friendly, knowledgeable waitstaff, where else could you possibly prefer to dine?

Food and Drink

When you visit, make sure to enjoy pre- or post-dinner drinks in their comfortable lounge, which has an extensive wine list and beers from the finest local micro-breweries. Peter Luger Steakhouse

You’ve likely enjoyed a steak doused in their world famous sauce, but have you ever actually visited Peter Luger’s? This quintessential, old-school steakhouse opened in 1887 and has been delighting New Yorkers’ appetites ever since. They even have a location in Brooklyn!

The Fare

The steak at Peter Luger’s is 100 percent USDA Prime, meaning that is represents less than two percent of graded beef cattle. This is commonly considered to be the top tier of American cattle.

They dry age short loins and shell steaks on-site in carefully regulated conditions, so you know you’re always getting the best cuts.

Peter Luger’s even offers daily luncheon specials until 3:45 p.m. Each day is something different. For instance, you can get Pot Roast and Chopped Steak on Monday, while you can order Prime Rib and Filet of Sole on Tuesday.

All of these dishes, including favorites like Lamb Chops and Grilled Atlantic Salmon, can be found on their expansive dinner menu with succulent appetizers like Luger’s Sizzling Bacon and the iconic Iceberg Wedge Salad. You won’t find a better place to enjoy an authentic New York steak than Peter Luger’s.

Bareburger may not be as upscale as the other options, but there is little to no difference when it comes to their fare. This modern burger joint with a rustic inspired décor will enthrall your taste buds with unique, yet still delectable, cuisines.

Besides burgers, they have all of the typical grub you’d expect like fries, milkshakes and sandwiches, but they also have healthier options like salads and other nutritious substitutes. For instance, instead of meat on your burger, you can try a Sweet Potato and Wild Rice or Black Bean and Roasted Corn Patty.

Otherwise, they have fascinating choices for meat besides regular beef, including:

  • Elk
  • Duck
  • Bison
  • Lamb

These dishes make Bareburger seem contemporary and therefore expensive, but everything on the menu is priced within reason and well worth it.

Great neck restaurants represent one of the shining beacons of the Long Island food scene. However, they still aren’t as popular as the ones in some of their neighboring towns. So, before the masses learn about these amazing eateries, make sure that you pay a visit!
