Ollie’s Guide to Opening Day 2019: New York Baseball Edition
New York Yankees
In the 2019 season, the New York Yankees will be looking to improve off of a disappointing 2018. After going 100-62 in the regular season, they went to the Wild Card game and beat the Oakland Athletics before succumbing to their hated rivals, the Boston Red Sox, in the American League Divisional Series.
However, last year wasn’t entirely a wash. Superstars like Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton and Luis Severino exceled, while younger guys like Luke Voit and Miguel Andujar started to make a name for themselves.
With the entire team back and the addition of newcomers like James Paxton and Adam Ottavino, the Yankees look to build off their 2018 efforts and hopefully bring their 28th World Series Championship back to the Bronx.
The Yankees will actually begin their 2019 MLB campaign at home against their division rivals, the Baltimore Orioles. Although the O’s will be without longtime outfield stalwart Adam Jones, they still have players like Alex Cobb, Mark Trumbo and Chris Davis to pick up the slack.
Either way, the Yankees Opening Day will be on Thursday, March 28, with the first pitch set for 1:05 p.m. With Severino out injured, the Yankees have announced that ace Masahiro Tanaka will take the mound for the occasion.

New York Mets
On the other hand, for the New York Mets, the only way to go is up following their abysmal 77-85 season. Luckily though, under the guidance of new general manager Brodie Van Wagenen, the Mets look to rebound with pickups like Robinson Cano and Wilson Ramos, along with proven stars like Noah Syndergaard and Yoenis Cespedes.
On the official MLB Opening Day, the Mets unfortunately won’t be playing at Citi Field in Queens. Instead, they will be on the road to face the Washington Nationals.
However, the Mets’ home opener will actually be played on Thursday, April 4 at 1:05 p.m. This game will also be against the Nationals and players like Max Scherzer and Trea Turner. Click here to buy tickets today.
